LEARN MORE ABOUT THE TOPICS DISCUSSED IN THIS EPISODE:
"I think the biggest thing is staying true to what you're passionate about. Because when you're passionate about something, people feel that, and people see that, and the result is in your work!"
At the beginning of her journey, what helped Bernice grow fastest?
When Bernice started she had very little idea what she was doing. She didn't know how to build a website. She didn't know much about photography. She didn't even know that much about baking! She just knew she wanted to try. What began as a creative outlet she realized could turn into so much more, and with that she decided to go all in!
It was in her second year of blogging that she made the decision to go all in, and invested in a photography course. After that, she joined a mastermind that was a real game changer. Investing in education had a huge impact not only through teaching her things but because there was a motivation not to waste her investment. And you know what? Every single course Bernice has taken paid for itself quickly.
How do we cultivate an audience around our blog and keep them engaged?
We've all been told to create content that other people want to see. But what does that even mean? People don't randomly just tell us what they want! How are we supposed to know? For Bernice, the most significant thing was staying true to what she was passionate about. When you're passionate about something, people feel that and see it, and the resulting work will connect with people. When Bernice started out, and her photography improved after taking the course, people started asking about her photography presets. She will tell people what course she took, but she isn't interested in teaching people about photography because her passion is baking! It's important to know when to stick with what you're doing and what you're passionate about.
What has had the most impact on growing your business?
#1: Making a game plan! If you're serious about it, then you want to set goals and make a strategy! How are you going to achieve those goals?
#2: Be adaptable. Blogging used to be just words. Then photos started to be necessary to get readers. Now we're on Pinterest, and Instagram, and using video,. If you want your business to grow, you need to think about the quickest way to adapt to whatever platform you are on.
#3. Again, invest in courses. This will help you grow as fast as possible, with as little wasted time and effort as possible. If Bernice could go back, she would invest in education even before investing in equipment!
