What are ads?
Ads are images or videos that are placed by a brand on your website, that you get paid for because they were viewed on your site. Whenever you go to some of the bigger blogs that you love and you see ads popping up on sidebars, or at the bottom or top of the websites, maybe you get a little frustrated with it. Just remember that is how that blogger is making money and supporting their brand and business and family! This is a goal that you can have as well, and that can pay out quite a bit. The payout though is (usually) dependent on page views.
Ad companies to look into
Google AdSense
A lot of bloggers will immediately try to install this on their site as fast as they can because they think that's how they should be monetizing. And we're just going to say, don't do it. It's just not worth it! They literally pay in pennies, it's going to slow down your website, it's going to slow down your user experience, and it's just not worth it. If you don't have enough page views to get on to a bigger ad company, we have a better idea for you! Just keep reading!
Ezoic - requires 10,000 page views
SheMedia - requires 20,000 page views
MediaVine - requires 50,000 sessions
AdThrive - requires 100,000 page views
How to run your own ads
Now, what if you don't have 10,000 page views? Or maybe even you do and you're not happy with the ad company you've got? How can you run your own ads and make your own money? Once you hit that 10,000-page view threshold, we would suggest that you consider selling your own ads. This is where you would manually place an ad (typically on your sidebar) that would link to a business. Yes, you can personally sell that real estate on your website! We suggest working with some of your favorite small businesses. It's not often that brands bigger brands will want to do this, but you can obviously offer it! It could maybe be an add-on if you're selling something on social media.
Is it worth it?
So if you're just getting started with this, you're probably asking "how much money could I make with this?"
For this example let's say you're getting between 10,000 to 20,000 page views per month. A base rate would be $200 for one month of sidebar ad placement or a package for $500 for three months. When you do the math, let's say you're able to get four brands to place ads that way, that's $2,000 over three months! And if you multiply that by four quarters, that's $10,000 for the year. So if you're just getting started or you're not making any money from your website right now, this could be a great option for you!
