You could have the most incredible blog post piece of content or freebie in the world, but if no one sees it, it won't make you money. Pinterest is the traffic driving queen that content creators keep sleeping on. Welcome to the Thrive Podcast, where we believe creators deserve more. More money, more freedom, and even more love for what they do.

I'm Bree P, your coach for content creators. And I know the struggle, the long hours, the endless ideas, the feeling that success is just out of reach. But here's the truth. You've got what it takes and this podcast. It's your shortcut to getting there from strategies that actually work to behind the scenes insights.

We are unlocking your potential one episode at a time. So if you're ready to turn your creative hustle into a thriving business, let's get started.

This is episode three of the series all about. Rowing your audience, and it was inspired by our audience growth plans inside of Bold Fluence. So if you've missed the first two episodes, make sure you go back and listen. They don't necessarily build on each other, but it is a series where we're covering all of the main platforms and helping you create a strategy to grow on them because.

We believe that every content creator needs to make more money, and you need to grow your audience the way that you want. So we've created over 25 different growth path combinations that you can choose from for your business. And when you join Bold Fluence, we'll teach you the different options and get you started so you can pick the audience growth plan.

And monetization plan that feels best for you. And so in this episode, it's a peek behind the scenes of what that looks like. And so today in this episode we're talking about Pinterest. So first, why does Pinterest still matter? Pinterest is a visual search engine, so it is not social media, but we include this as an audience growth platform because you can grow an audience here just like you can on everything else.

Even if you think of like a blog, you're growing an audience through page views, right? Email, you're growing an audience through email subscribers, Pinterest, you're growing an audience through viewers, and you can have followers over there on Pinterest, we don't place a huge emphasis on having a certain number of followers on Pinterest.

Rather, we want to create pins that are going to convert and get views on your pins. Yes. But the main goal is that those views turn into clicks and convert people over to other types of content. So whether that is a blog post, whether that is signing up for a digital product, um, all of the different things, I'm, I'm, I'm totally getting ahead of myself, but that's what we really want to.

Make sure it's doing because it is one of the top traffic drivers for evergreen content for our bold Fluence members year after year. So if you saw a dip in your traffic from Google, Pinterest is the one to pick up the slack. It's also a way to make sure that you're not putting all of your eggs in one basket, and I really do believe that no matter what your main platform is, you should be using Pinterest.

Pinterest can drive traffic, of course, to your blog, a website, but it can also think of it this way, think of it as driving traffic to your social media accounts. You can grow followers this way. Think of it as driving traffic to your opt-ins, your digital products, your affiliate links to Often content creators are kind of putting Pinterest in a box.

And thinking, oh, well, I'll use Pinterest for X, Y, and Z. I'll use it to drive traffic to this one thing, when you can use Pinterest to drive traffic to everything. And what we love about Pinterest is that they can live for months, sometimes years, sending traffic to your content. Instagram is a moment, right?

It's something that you post the content and hope that it lives for a little bit, but it disappears often within 24 hours. Pinterest is lasting. Your pins keep working while you sleep. I have pins that I created that are still driving traffic five years later. Yes, five years. What other type of content are you creating that is lasting that long?

What other content are you creating that's even lasting a month, right? So what we wanna do is use Pinterest for visibility. So that's a big mindset shift that we need to make With Pinterest. It's not about going viral on Pinterest, it's about gaining visibility, and we don't have to post every single day on Pinterest manually.

Pinterest is. Awesome in the fact that there are easy tools to use that. You can create pins for Pinterest once, twice a month and have them going out throughout the month. I love this because you can really spend a couple of strategic hours on Pinterest a month and see huge results. You just need a smart plan, and you are creating searchable content for Pinterest.

Not trendy, so you need to think of it this way. Pinterest isn't about chasing trends, okay? It's about building a path back to your best content. So think of that content that you spend so much time working on. Maybe it's a blog post, maybe it's a reel, maybe it's an opt-in. You spent so much time and energy on, you're like, oh my gosh, I just wish more people could see this.

Pinterest could be the answer for you. So if we were to create a 90 day Pinterest plan, what does that look like? And this is what we build for you inside of bold fluence. It's what is there for you as soon as you sign up. So. To give you like the bird's eye view of what these months will look like. Month one is really focusing on building your Pinterest foundation, and I always leave the disclaimer with sharing these monthly plans with you that it doesn't matter where you're at in this phase.

Maybe you've been doing Pinterest. There's always certain things that we need to like revisit and make sure that our structure and our foundation is sturdy. What I love about what we've built inside of Bold Fluence is that you can jump in no matter where you're at, and you are going to be able to see where you can add some strategic plans and see huge results in 90 days.

So, we're first gonna focus on making sure we clean up your profile. If we need to create or update boards, update subscriptions, make sure your pin links and titles. And boards are SEO optimized. There's often something that you're missing with keywords in regards to Pinterest. Even my friend, I was looking at her Pinterest boards and they're driving traffic for her, like she is getting email signups.

Every single week, and I went over and looked at some of her boards and I'm like, okay, Pinterest is working for you. Amazing. But like it could even work better because you're missing some board descriptions here. You could add in some keywords here. There's always something that we could do to make it even better than it is right now.

Month two, we're gonna focus on sharing strategically, so starting to create some fresh pins. And if all of this language is like new to you, don't worry. We break it down super, super easy and in a non overwhelming way for you. So start creating fresh pins for your top performing posts and freebies. We'll teach you, you know how to share how often to share which boards to share to, and you can use templates and batch and bolt, and again, schedule ahead.

This is not a platform that you need to touch every single day. It truly is a platform that you can touch once or twice a month, and then. Month three, working on optimizing and multiplying your results. So we're gonna look at some analytics. What pins are performing, where's your traffic coming from?

We're going to create new pins, fresh pins, we call them for what's working and plan based on future. I say this with a disclaimer 'cause I'm gonna explain it in a second. Based on trends and seasons. So trends, Brie, you just said a few minutes ago that trends are not something we have to worry about. What we do wanna pay attention to is, so let's say you are in the home and DIY space, there are certain.

Trends that happen, let's say, okay, for example, gray in your homes. Gray had its moment for, I don't know, I'm not, I'm not in the industry, but let's say 10 years. Okay. And before it was more like beige, right? And now we've gone back to beige. So those type of things are things that you do want to kind of pay attention to and.

Just make sure that you're optimizing your content. Likely you already have content that is for these quote unquote trends. And so we just need to make sure that we're sharing them in a way that's going to get you the clicks. So that's what we're gonna look at. Pinterest is where strategy meets sustainability, so we are gonna be able to do the work once and let it keep paying off.

Like I said above, I have pins that I created five years ago that are still driving traffic. To lifestyle blog posts that I'm not even fully like optimizing or even paying attention to right now since I've gone full in on coaching with you guys, but they're still driving me traffic. So I mean, that's amazing and just proof that Pinterest is a really awesome platform that is going to keep stacking, and that's what I love to spend time on.

I love to spend time on things that I know are going to keep working year after year, month after month rather than something that. I poured my blood, sweat, and energy into and worked for a week, right? I want some things that are going to be long-term running in the background for me. While I do create, I.

Some of that content that is a little bit shorter lasting. So what are some other common Pinterest mistakes that creators make that you should watch out for? So the first one is not using keyword rich pin titles or descriptions. So if you're just posting content. And not paying attention to the keywords that you're using in the titles, in the descriptions.

And like I said before, in your boards, we're really just kind of living on a prayer at that point, and we don't wanna spend our energy doing that. We also don't want to post once and then forget about it. So not reviewing the data, not looking at the analytics, not looking at what's performing, what's not performing, what's getting you clicks.

We need to kind of learn from that. So then that way we can repeat the things that are working really well. And then linking to content that isn't optimized. So if your site is really slow, or if you don't have a good opt-in on that page and or you're sending in to an Instagram profile or an Instagram reel, but it's not really optimized to convert for followers, right?

So we need to just think strategically about what we're pinning. And then the last one is just giving up because it is a slow burn. It is. I, I will fully admit, Pinterest is not something where you're gonna go viral overnight and see overnight success. But I will tell you, if you stick with it, if, and you're in this business for the long haul, I need to get that like tattooed or something.

I say that almost every episode now. But you're in this for the long haul, right? Your goal, maybe your goal is to use this to go full-time or use this to make X amount of dollars within the next five years. Let's say just five years. Five years is a long time, and if you start Pinterest now, five years is gonna go by.

Regardless. You might as well start some of these things that are going to pay off where you may see huge results a year from now. But if you don't start, that year is just gonna still be a year away. Whereas if you start now, maybe it's only 364 days away, and then it'll get closer and closer. So how can Bold Fluence help you get there?

Get to those results? So like I said, we provide training to help you use Pinterest to its fullest potential. We're also giving you templates for pins and how to do boards correctly. Pinterest Is Not Social Media—It’s a Visual Search Engine

Let’s start with the biggest mindset shift. Pinterest isn’t social media. It’s not about likes, followers, or engagement rates. It’s a search engine: visual, evergreen, and built for longevity.

What does that mean for creators like us? It means that content you post on Pinterest today can drive traffic tomorrow, next month, even years from now. I’ve got pins I posted five years ago that are still delivering clicks. Name any other platform doing that for you.

What You Can Promote on Pinterest

Too often, creators think Pinterest is just for blog traffic. Wrong. You can use Pinterest to drive visibility to:

  • Blog posts
  • Freebies and lead magnets
  • Digital products
  • Affiliate links
  • YouTube videos
  • Podcast episodes
  • Even Instagram and TikTok accounts

If it has a URL, Pinterest can drive traffic to it.

The 90-Day Pinterest Growth Plan That Works (Even If You're Busy)

Inside Boldfluence, we teach a 90-day Pinterest plan that is designed to work even if you’re not tech-savvy or you’ve never pinned a single thing before. Let’s break it down.

Month 1: Build Your Pinterest Foundation

Start by cleaning up your profile and setting it up for success:

  • Update your boards with keyword-rich descriptions
  • Ensure all links work and go to optimized content
  • Refresh your profile bio with clarity and keywords
  • Set up your pinning tool (like Tailwind or Canva Scheduler)

Even if you’ve used Pinterest before, revisiting your structure ensures you’re not missing easy wins—like keyword gaps in board titles or outdated links.

Month 2: Share Strategically with Fresh Pins

Now we start creating content for Pinterest. Not trendy. Searchable. I recommend you focus on:

  • Pinning your best-performing content and freebies
  • Creating multiple pins per link (different visuals + titles)
  • Using templates for consistency and speed
  • Scheduling pins ahead so you're not tied to the platform daily

You don’t need to post every day. Batch your content once or twice a month, schedule it, and move on.

Month 3: Optimize and Multiply Your Results

This is where the momentum builds:

  • Look at analytics: what’s getting clicks?
  • Double down with new pins for top-performing links
  • Refresh pins that are plateauing
  • Lean into seasonal search trends in your niche

The Most Common Pinterest Mistakes (and How to Avoid Them)

Let’s make sure you’re not sabotaging your own growth. Here are a few missteps I see all the time:

Mistake 1: Ignoring Keywords

Pinterest is a search engine. If your pin titles, descriptions, and board names don’t include keywords people are actually searching for, you’re just crossing your fingers.

Mistake 2: Linking to Poorly Optimized Content

If someone clicks your pin and lands on a slow-loading blog or a vague opt-in page with no call to action, they’ll bounce. Make sure your content is fast, clear, and conversion-friendly.

Mistake 3: Posting Once and Quitting

Pinterest is a slow burn. You won’t go viral overnight—but the traffic you build will stack over time. Stay consistent.

Mistake 4: Never Checking Analytics

If you don’t know what’s working, how can you do more of it? Pinterest gives you clear data—use it!

Why Pinterest Works for the Long Haul

We all want more freedom. And Pinterest gives you that.

You can step away for a week (or a month) and still see traffic coming in. You can sleep and still get email signups. You can repurpose your best-performing posts and give them new life with fresh visuals.

If you’re building a content-driven business that’s designed to last, Pinterest isn’t optional—it’s essential.
