Don't let the new trials feature on Instagram Reels intimidate you! You can use it to your advantage! In today's episode, I'm sharing my own strategy to using the trials to train the algorithm and grow my account. While I'm still in my own testing phase, I know trial reels have been a big topic of conversation, so I invite you to join me in testing out this new feature!

[00:00:00] Instagram Trial Reels. Let's talk about it. First thing is like, yes, Instagram has released yet another thing that makes us question, is this adding more to our plate? Should we try this? Do we want to just throw our phone out the window? And at first, my first thought was honestly to throw my phone out the window.

[00:00:26] Um, just like, Yet one more thing for content creators to have to do and add to our plate. And then I took a moment as I usually have to do with any Instagram update and give, give it time and also give myself time and just remind myself that, you know what, just because this is a new update does not mean it is something that I have to add to my plate right now or at all.

[00:00:53] So, that is what I want to preface all of this with. If you are not in a place where you can do this right now, no worries. But if you are, then let's talk about it and you can steal the strategy that I am doing that is a strategy I have stolen from others that I have learned. So, what are trial reels?

[00:01:15] First of all, you, uh, hopefully everybody listening to this has access to it. However, I know that some of you don't because I've talked to some of you inside of shift and you do not have access to trial reels for some reason. It doesn't really make sense to me why everyone doesn't, um, they're trying to roll it out to all creator and business accounts.

[00:01:38] So keep an eye out for it. If you don't have it yet, hopefully you will have it soon. If you're verified, I would go ahead and ask your, the inside of Instagram where you can talk to someone. I don't know that it'll do any good, but you can always ask. So jumping into what they are, where they are, how to find them.

[00:01:59] So for me, whenever I am on my profile, I might go to my Reels tab. I can now see. In the top left corner, drafts and trial reels. So when I click on that, I will click over on trial reels and it'll show me the ones that I have already. Now if you don't have a trial reel started already, what you're going to do is you're going to create the plus icon up at the top of your profile like you would normally create a reel.

[00:02:26] Do everything you would normally do to create said reel. And then you're going to keep going through. And then right before you hit publish in the audience section, you will see for me, it has a bright blue new, um, sign and it says trial. And you're just going to toggle that on. Now, when you toggle that on, it is not going to share the real to your profile.

[00:02:50] So who does it go to then if it's not going to your audience, that is what is kind of interesting about this. So we know on our normal reels, they get seen by some of our followers and some people that aren't following us. With trial reels, it is 100 percent people that are not following you. So because of that, as you can imagine, there is kind of this own.

[00:03:14] algorithm for trial reels. And so that is what I kind of include when I am creating my strategy. So when you first start posting trial reels, just know if they're not getting you a ton of views, that's normal. Mine are not getting a ton of views right now. What I am having to do is just to keep posting consistently.

[00:03:38] And that is going to train the algorithm as to who the content Is for who I am creating this content for. And so it's going to take a little bit of time for it to figure that out. And then hopefully the goal is that as you're posting these trial reels, it is going to attract the right people for you.

[00:03:57] So trial reels goes to 100 percent non followers. And so when you think about that, it's actually kind of fun. So the way that I am doing this. is I am creating reels like normal for my audience. Before I hit publish, I am going in and I am duplicating that reel multiple times, usually at least like three or four times.

[00:04:23] I'm going to go ahead and publish that reel. To my feed, like normal, so my audience can see it. And then those additional reels that I duplicated, I am going to tweak something on each one. So maybe I am changing the copy that is on top of the reel, changing the music, changing the caption. I'm going to tweak something slightly for each one.

[00:04:44] Maybe I'm switching out the video if it's a B roll video. And I'm going to publish at least three to trial reels. My goal here is that I am reaching a new audience that is going to watch my reel and convert over to my profile and grow my account that way. I've only been doing this for a couple of weeks now.

[00:05:07] It hasn't completely figured out the algorithm for me just yet, but it's going to. And what's interesting is, yes, I'm literally posting like the same reel multiple times. To trial reels, so when I go over to my trial reels, I see one of the ones, I only duplicated it and posted it twice, so I could probably do it again.

[00:05:30] One of them only has 273 views on it, and one, the other one only has 61 views on it. It's the exact same video. I've just changed how the copy shows up on top of the video. bizarre, right? It's so strange to me. So it's, it's an interesting game over there on trial reels. But to me, I'm like, well, I'm already creating the reel.

[00:05:56] It doesn't take me that much longer to duplicate it, change a couple of things, then post them over to trial reels. And then as the algorithm learns me, I'm hoping that it's going to grow my account as I have seen it work for other people. So That's what I'm doing currently. So I'm making a reel for my own audience, then I'm duplicating that content a few times, changing things out, and posting them to trial reels.

[00:06:21] I am also going to leave them in trial reels indefinitely. I'm not going to, because you have the option of then posting it to your account. I'm I'm not going to do that because I want them just to stay over there in that algorithm and keep finding me more people and who knows how long one of those reels will take to maybe pop off later down the road.

[00:06:40] So I'm just going to leave them over there and then post, you know, just post the first initial one over to my feed. So the trick is just to remember before you post it to your feed, duplicate it. So that way you have it for trial reels. That's my tip. That's how I'm using trial reels right now. I don't have a ton of results just yet because I'm just getting started with it and letting the algorithm figure out who my content should go to.

[00:07:06] So follow along. I'll keep you guys updated and let me know in our Facebook group or over on Instagram, how you're liking trial reels and if you're having any results from them yet.
